More than eighteen students were honoured yesterday by the Guyana Water Incor-porated (GWI) for their excellent performances at the recent National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Examinations, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said.
During the ceremony, the students were presented with school supplies and $30,000 each.
Executive Director of Human Resource, Management and Development of GWI, Elvis Jordon said that the bursary award stem-med from several discussions among the members of the management and was subsequently approved by the GWI Board.
“These are the children of GWI staff and they have made their parents proud. So, we are taking the time to recognise our employees and their offspring,” Jordon said
He noted that some of the students came from Regions 3,4, 5, 6 and as far as Region 9. Anna Austin, who travelled from Lethem in Region 9, said she worked very hard and cannot wait to walk through the doors of her new secondary school come September 2. “I got St. Ignatius Secondary school and I am very pleased and excited, I want to become a teacher and I will work very hard to achieve my dreams,” Austin stated, according to DPI.
Neshawn Samroo, who will be attending President’s College said he is a little nervous and excited at the same time.
