A Kildonan hire car driver was charged yesterday with the murder of Spring-lands farmer Nigel Matthews, who was found stabbed to death in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Neshawn Williams, also known as ‘Blacka,’ 29, of Lot 2 A Kildonan Village, Corentyne, yesterday appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with the murder of Matthews, also known as “Tubby”.
Williams, who appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh, was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison.
He will return to the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on September 19th.
Matthews, 49, a farmer of Lot 14 Springlands, Upper Corentyne was discovered with seven stab wounds in the region of his chest at James Street, Rampoor Village, Corriverton, around 3 am on Monday.
According to an eyewitness, Matthews, the accused and other persons were gambling when an argument broke out between Matthews and the accused, after which Matthews left and returned with a bottle and threw something in his face.
The eyewitness further claimed that he then jumped into his car after which the accused and another person followed him into the car as well. He said they were then driving along the public road when the accused told him to stop the car and rushed after Matthews. A fight then ensued and he allegedly proceeded to stab Matthews in his chest area returned to the car, claiming, “Me just dun he dance.”
