(Trinidad Express) A veteran lifeguard fell ill while on duty at Vessigny Beach in La Brea and died on Wednesday.
Jonathan Kowlessar was described as the “sweetbread of the service” by co-workers, who said he had made an immense contribution to his community and would be greatly missed.
Kowlessar had more than 20 years’ service.
One co-worker in the Lifeguard Service Division in Vessigny said, “He was a really nice individual, always on time and respectful.
“He got along so well with everyone here and the community. He will really be missed.”
Kowlessar had complained on Wednesday afternoon that he was not feeling well.
Around 1.30 p.m., paramedics were contacted and he was transported to Point Fortin Hospital, where he died.
Family members are awaiting autopsy results from San Fernando General Hospital.
