Wayne Gerald DeAbreu and Devin Persaud on Saturday last, represented Archery Guyana at the 2019 World Archery approved tournament – Double 720 Qualification – in Baltimore, Canada.
Under bright blue skies, the two Guyanese started the day in Baltimore with a half – hour of practice session to then started shooting 72 arrows, scoring the first 720 during the morning session which resulted in DeAbreu gaining a score of 626 and Persaud 620.
After a break, the afternoon session commenced with the other round of 72 shots and that concluded the second 720 round, after which DeAbreu secured 603 and Persaud emerged with a 644 thereby elevating his ranking.
Archery Guyana, in a press release, said it was pleased to report that Persaud is currently ranked ninth in Canada after the top five scores were recorded while DeAbreu is now ranked 17th. Currently, plans are in place to give the athletes more opportunities to shoot at upcoming tournaments to continuously produce better scores and to raise the ranking and ultimately the level of archery. The Board of Archery Guyana said that it stands behind their two highest ranked archers as they continue to represent Guyana.
