An Agricola man, accused of a series of armed robberies, was granted bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Antonio Maraj, 23, who has been charged with a string of robberies in the past, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to three charges of armed robbery.
The first charge stated that on August 1st, at D’Urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, Maraj robbed Esther Peters of a $127,500 gold ring, $40,000 cash, a Samsung J3 phone, two flash drives valued $4,000 and a knife worth $8,000 knife, the total value being $227,500.
Another charge stated that on August 12th, at Hadfield and Breda streets, while in company of others and armed with a gun, Maraj robbed Mark Witter of $86,000 and a Samsung Galaxy J5 valued at $64,000.
On the very date, he also allegedly robbed Tavia Bailey of a Samsung Galaxy phone valued $80,000, a $10,000 silver chain and $2,500. Maraj denied the allegations.
Witter and Bailey opted not to offer evidence against him.
He was granted $100,000 bail in relation to the other matter and ordered to return to court on September 6th.
