Former captains of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Chris Green and Shoaib Malik have arrived in Guyana and will join the franchise ahead of their 2019 HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign which begins this week.
The pair was seen at nets at the Providence National Stadium yesterday with the team, leaving only Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul who are with the West Indies Test side battling India in Jamaica along with Nicholas Pooran and Shadab Khan are the remaining members yet to join the unit.
Malik, who was tipped by Head Coach Johan Botha to lead the side this season was given the role last year but departed after five matches following which Green was named captain.
Malik, 37, brings a vast amount of experience, having played in every edition of the CPL which contributes to his 345 T20 matches along with two decades of international experience.
Meanwhile, Green, 25, has become a T20 specialist. He has featured in 63 matches in the format and has built a reputation as a useful all-rounder with a strike rate of 127 and 49 wickets to his name.
With the Warriors set to begin their title hunt on Thursday against the St. Lucia Zouks, they will play in two warm up matches against a Select XI comprising local players.
Their campaign will continue with matches against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The first match will take place tonight at 18.00 hours under lights while the following day will see another contest.
Amazon Warriors have made it to four finals in the six-year history of the competition and are yet to win a title.
