(Jamaica Gleaner) Twenty-six alleged members of St Catherine-based ‘One Don’ gang were denied bail when they appeared in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston this week.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions, only 29 of the 36 alleged gang members made bail applications, two of which were successful and one part heard.
The Crown, represented by four prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, opposed bail for all but one of the accused persons.
The statement said that the presiding judge ruled that due to the nature of the allegations, the media and members of the public would not be allowed to observe the proceedings.
The alleged members of the ‘One Don’ gang, which is said to be a breakaway from the Spanish Town-based Clansman Gang, were apprehended during an operation in June.
The 36 accused are charged under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act 2014, commonly known as the Anti-Gang Legislation.
