Kwakwani United Sports Club (KKSUC) and TMT Global Inc., will host a cricket, football and basketball camp in Kwakwani. According to a release, KKSUC is a newly formed sports club, founded in February of this year. TMT Global Inc., is a foreign owned local lumbering business in Kwakwani which has been assisting in the development of sport in Kwakwani since the beginning of the year. Anthony D’Andrade is the Sport Consultant of this company and has been in charge of the project which is called the Kwakwani Sport Project.
The camp, scheduled to begin on September 16 and conclude September, 27, will focus on teaching the basic skills of the three sports disciplines to youngsters along with other life skills like leadership, the importance of education.
One of the main aims of this camp is to regenerate the interest of sport, primarily cricket, in the area. Coaching activities will take place at the Worrell’s Park in Kwakwani and will begin at 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. Young boys and girls aged 10 and over are invited.
Coordinating the camp will be D’Andrade, the former national youth player and Berbice senior team batsman who has recently completed the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Level 2 coaching course held in July at the National Stadium. West Indies female all-rounder Tremayne Smartt who is herself a recently qualified CWI Level 2 coach will assist. Jimmy McClean and Kinesha Stewart will be the coaches for football while Ann Gordon and Dave Causway will be in charge of the basketball coaching.
