High winds batter Mahdia

A section of the school’s roof that was blown off

A team from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is expected to be deployed to the town of Mahdia following reported high winds which caused damage to a number of structures in the town, including a school building which had its roof blown off.

According to a Facebook post by Director General of the CDC Colonel Kester Craig, reports from the town indicated that they would have experienced “a gust of high winds” yesterday around 4 pm, which lasted for approximately 15 minutes.

The CDC was monitoring the situation in the region and was awaiting reports of a comprehensive assessment which was to be conducted by officials from the region.
