Dear Editor,
I would like to add my voice to the many complaints about the NIS. On 8th May last, I submitted my pensioner life certificate to their Lethem office. When no deposit was made into my account in June, I was told that the main office could not find my life certificate. I therefore had to submit another one to the Lethem office; but after no deposit had yet been made, that office notified me that the main office said the outstanding deposits for June, July and August would not be made until the third week in September!
I tried to make an official complaint to the main office, but after trying seven different switchboard numbers for one and a half hours on two separate days, and after having the public relations officer’s phone ring out five different times, I have now had to seek recourse to your newspaper. It is unacceptable that the public sector remains so inefficient at the expense of pensioners.
Yours faithfully,
Clairmont Lye
