Fruta Conquerors u20 and Buxton Stars secured contrasting wins when the fourth annual Limacol football competition resumed Friday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The contest was effectively over at the end of the first half after the Tucville unit romped to a 2-0 advantage.
Ravon Bailey opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Reshawn Ritch doubled the lead, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 10th minute.
Nicholas MacArthur then got into the scoring act recording the first of two goals in the 24th minute. Northern Rangers would eventually pull one back in the 66th minute through Travis Martin.
However, the score was sealed in the 89th minute when MacArthur completed his double. Meanwhile, Buxton Stars squeaked past Georgetown Football Club [GFC] 2-1 in the earlier match of the evening.
Dennis Fordyce and Shemar McPherson bagged goals in the upset result for the East Coast Demerara unit in the 33rd and 79th minute respectively. For the losers, Michael Stewart netted in the 40th minute.
The event will continue today at the same venue with another doubleheader. Riddim Squad will take aim at GT Panthers from 19:00hrs while Camptown will battle Grove Hi-Tech from 21:00hrs.
The event which features 16 clubs from Georgetown, East Coast of Demerara, East Bank of Demerara and West Demerara, will conclude during the month of October.
The winning team will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
