Niketa Bishop and Jamal Eastman, who were accused of ganja trafficking, have been freed of the charge after it was dismissed at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Bishop, a 30-year-old cosmetologist, of Lot 1212 Diamond Grove, East Bank Demerara, and Eastman, a 24-year-old serving member of the Guyana Defence Force who is also of the same address, were freed of the charge that on November 5th, at Lot 1212 Diamond Grove, they had 380 grammes (equivalent to 0.8 of a pound) of cannabis in their possession for trafficking.
Both accused had denied the charge when it was first read to them by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and maintained their innocence throughout the trial.
On Monday, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman dismissed the charge after finding that the police were unable to prove the elements of the charge.
