Following his impressive all-round outing on Sunday evening against the Barbados Tridents, Chandrapaul Hemraj has declared that he is not looking far ahead as it relates to reclaiming a slot back in the West Indies team.

Hemraj, on Sunday, wove together his maiden T20 fifty – 63 – and later stuck a dagger in Tridents’ batting line-up by removing the dangerous Alex Hales first ball of the innings.

The young man, who played six One-Day Internationals for the West Indies against India and Bangladesh during the last quarter of 2019, explained that his immediate desire is merely to enjoy his cricket.  “I just want to enjoy my cricket,” the 26-year-old declared, adding “whenever I get the opportunity I just want to make the most of it.”

Explaining his desire to carry his bat deeper into the innings, Hemraj noted that there is not much wrong with his touch at the moment as recent evidence suggests where he cracked the likes of Jason Holder and others on  Tridents’ bowling attack to all parts.

“I think I’ve been timing the ball pretty well…I just want to keep going and, hopefully, we go deep into the tournament. It’s a great experience and I just want to thank the crowd for it.”  The Guyanese, after three matches, currently sits atop the runs leader board, with a total of 116 runs, ahead of the newly appointed West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard (106), Denesh Ramdin (104) and fellow Warrior Shimron Hetmyer (103).

Although he declared that his focus is not on things Maroon, Hemraj could stake a claim for a recall if his numbers keep trending in the right direction and if he heeds the advice of his skipper Shoaib Malik as it relates to embracing consistency throughout the tournament.

Warriors next assignment will be against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 14, 2019 from 20:00hrs.
