The police in ‘G’ Division are investigating a report of assault committed on Regional Vice Chairperson Nandranie Coonjah allegedly by Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Regional Executive Officer (REO) Denis Jaikarran on Tuesday.
Acting Commander of ‘G’ Division Crystal Robinson yesterday told Stabroek News that the police are currently seeking legal advice which will determine the way forward in the matter.
Robinson said the matter was reported to the Anna Regina Police Station after which an investigation was immediately launched.
During the probe, she said both parties were questioned.
Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy.
However, Stabroek News understands that Coonjah alleged that she was struck on her shoulder by Jaikarran.
The incident occurred following a disturbance at the monthly statutory meeting which was held in the Regional Democratic Council boardroom.
