Dear Editor,
The Minister of Natural Resources Hon. Raphael Trotman made a visit to Kwakwani on September 8, 2019 to conduct an inspection of the Workers’ Club which is currently under rehabilitation. The club’s rehabilitation formed part of a commitment made by the Minister after finding that it needed major repairs and upgrades.
Agreed and ongoing rehabilitative works include the changing of the floorboards, fixtures to the roof, windows, doors, pavilion, male and female sanitary areas, bar and kitchen areas along with an overall facelift of the building.
It is the Minister’s vision, understanding the significant role the club has played in the community over the years, to make it more user-friendly so that it may continue to cater to various community activities.
While on this trip, Minister Trotman also inspected the Linden-Kwakwani rehabilitated trail that was completed during the rainy season. The trail endured the unkind weather enough, allowing access to Kwakwani in under 1 hour 20 minutes. This year, even with heavy rains, the roadway remained open and durable and this is testament to the efficient construction work.
Just recently, the Ministry upon request by the Kwakwani Neighbourhood Demo-cratic Council, also upgraded the community’s one-mile main access road that leads from the Kwakwani waterfront to the Kwakwani Park.
The Minister is pleased to have had a successful visit to Kwakwani, he express-ed thanks to the community leaders and residents who also took time out to interact with him and team, sharing concerns and showing gratitude for the continued focus being given to the community.
Yours faithfully,
Stephon Gabriel
Public Affairs Officer
