West Indies under – 19 batsman Raymond Perez registered another impressive century for the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) who are locked in battle against the Police Sports Club (PSC) in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association Noble House Seafoods second-division two-day cricket competition yesterday.
PSC after winning the toss, inserted the host DCC who made use of a good batting surface and posted 340-9 declared from 63.3 overs. Police in response, ended the day on 98-2, trailing by 242 runs.
Perez, who struck 192 against Diplomats last weekend, was once again at the forefront of DCC’s innings with another fine century, posting 159 against the lawmen. His knock included 18 fours and seven sixes. The elegant right-hander shared in a 107-run stand with Nkosi Beaton (53) who struck a matured half-century as Dexter George (33) and Sachin Singh (25) failed to convert starts.
Leg-spinner Pernell London (3-49) spearheaded Police’s bowling and got support from seamers Quentin Sampson (2-54) and Darson LaRose (2-71).
Police, in their first innings response, raced to 98-2 at the close. The first innings reply mirrored a T20 chase where Andrew Lyght Jr. (38), who gave his wicket away at the end of the day and Kemol Savory, who is unbeaten on 34 were operating at nearly 10 runs per over during the final session.
Meanwhile, over at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), the host ended day one in a commanding position after grabbing first innings points from Ace Warriors who won the toss and elected to bat. They were subsequently bundled out for 64 with Rawle Enmore (33) being the only batter who mustered any resistance against Nkosi Barker (3-3) and Delon Dalrymple (2-11).
MSC in their first innings response were dismissed for 246, earning a lead of 182 runs courtesy of a well compiled century from Jeremiah Scott (126) assisted by Shaquille Moseley (78). Asif Baksh (4-55) and Roger Aaron (3-28) combined for seven wickets for Ace Warriors who are wobbling at 45-5 in their second innings with Barker (3-18) and Dalrymple (2-15) once again doing the damage. They still need a 137 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
