The date was September 22, 2018, the venue was the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and boxer/trainer James Walcott was steaming on that rainy night.
The reason: he had just witnessed one of his boxers, Romeo Norville being pummeled by James Moore, but that was not what got Walcott heated, it was the mockery and unsportsmanlike behavior Moore displayed following his TKO victory in round three.
Walcott stormed the ring and confronted Moore for embarrassing Norville, challenging him to a fight.
On September 28, he will get his wish, albeit more than a year later.
Walcott will finally get his chance to “teach Moore a lesson” and earn a semblance of revenge at D’Urban Park where the ‘Not In My House’ Pro/Am card will be staged.
Walcott told Stabroek Sport recently that he has not forgiven Moore and plans to take him to school in their scheduled six-round, light heavyweight contest.
“Because of his mouth, I will teach him a lesson, a strict boxing lesson for his mouth,” said Walcott who added: “I will knock some sense into him which will be good for his life. After the fight, he is going to become a better person, a better man with better behaviour and respect for people.”
Will Walcott live up to his boasts or will Moore school the teacher and his student? The answer will be known in less than two weeks.
Meanwhile, the main course of the event will see the flashy Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques making his highly-anticipated ring return in the feature bout of the evening.
The showman flyweight, who has not fought since last January, will look to shake off some ring-rust since his promotional team is already lining up a Commonwealth title fight with their sights set on a World title crack sometime next year.
Marques (17-2-0) will match gloves with Colombian, Jose Antonio Jimenez in a 10-round affair.
Another six-round fight will see Edmond ‘Wonder Boy’ DeClou matching gloves with Kwesi Jones in a catch weight encounter and debutant Duel Augustin facing Patrick Boston in a four-round middleweight scrap.
Organizers of the open air event have also pitted welterweight, Anson Green against the USA’s Raymond Wilburg (four rounds) and Pearline Lochan (debut) and Sharon Warde (four rounds) against each other.
The boxers on the amateur segment are yet to be finalized.
Admission for the event which will include a concert with surprise artists, is set at $2000. Bell time is 19:00hrs.
Stabroek Sport will keep readers updated as events unfold for the fixture which is a collaborative effort involving the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Caribbean Knockouts, HJ Entertainment and NexGen Global Marketing.
