Indal Sheobalis, the accused in the theft of over $50,000 in valuables from an Essequibo shop, was unable to secure bail yesterday after he could not provide a fixed address to a city court.
Sheobalis, a 23-year-old Supenaam resident, was remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on the charge that on September 13th, at Essequibo, he broke and entered the shop of Marcela Jeffrey and stole $51,200 in alcohol, beverages, confectionaries and cash.
The miner pleaded not guilty to the charge but was unable to secure bail after he could not give a fixed place of residence.
Police prosecutor Quinn Harris objected and noted that Sheobalis was found with the stolen items in his possession. He also cited his failure to provide a fixed address, the penalty attached to the charge and also because the virtual complainant had identified the defendant to the police.
Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus remanded Sheobalis to prison and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for September 18th.
