Aliyah Abrams, Emanuel Archibald and Quamel Prince have been named by the Athletic Association of Guyana as the nation’s representatives for the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
This is according to President of the Association, Aubrey Hutson.
When contacted yesterday, Hutson disclosed to Stabroek Sport that he was in the midst of purchasing tickets for the three athletes.
The championships will be staged in Doha, Qatar from September 27 to October 6.
According to Hutson, the USA-based, Abrams will contest the 400m while national long-jump, record-holder, Archibald will battle it out on the sand and USA-born 800m runner of Guyanese descent, Prince, will match strides with the world best in the two-lap event during the 10-day championships.
Archibald’s coach, Kerry Lee Ricketts, a Strength Conditioning Coach/Jump Coach/ Massage Therapist at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, will also be in attendance.
Abrams was a finalist at the recently concluded Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
More than 2000 of the world’s top athletes will be competing for 192 medals to be awarded across 49 finals during the competition, which gets underway with the midnight marathon.
