A heavy downpour just after midday yesterday left sections of Georgetown flooded. Many believe that the streets were flooded because of the ongoing road expansion works on Sheriff Street coupled with poor drainage.

Inches of water flowed through the streets and in some cases into  yards. Residents yesterday pointed out that many of the drains in their community needed to be cleaned since they were clogged by vegetation.

Rainfall in the city lasted approximately two hours and areas such as Festival City in North Ruimveldt, South Ruimveldt and Alexander Village were unusually free of flooding.

Areas that were heavily flooded were Campbellville, Kitty, Bel Air Park along with Quamina Street and Main Street.

Stabroek News was told by residents that the water began receding quickly after the rain stopped.
