A man, who admitted to assaulting his girlfriend on Regent Road, was jailed for three months when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Seon Cholmondeley appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on September 16th at 141 Regent Road, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted his girlfriend.
When addressing the court, Cholmondeley said that he is a Christian and so is his girlfriend. According to him, the issue was rooted in him falling away from being the “good Christian” she expects him to be. He said that on the day in question, he asked his girlfriend to talk at her home or at his, even though he was fully aware that she would not agree to that.
He said that he had called the woman that morning and she told him they could meet up either at church or any public place but he was adamant about them meeting at either of their houses. Cholmondeley informed the court that he approached his girlfriend while she was on Regent Road and tried to get her to agree to his request but when she kept resisting, he grabbed her roughly by her hand.
The man admitted that what he did was wrong and asked the court to be lenient with him. The magistrate subsequently sentenced Cholmondeley to three months in prison.
