(Trinidad Guardian) Nine high powered guns are among 12 illegals firearms seized by the police within the last 24 hours.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says the nine AR15 rifles along with a large quantity of ammunition were found and seized by officers of the POS Division during an anticrime exercise in the Belmont district on Thursday night.
The TTPS said while conducting several road checks on Thursday night, the team of officers went to the St Francois Valley Road Plannings area, where they conducted several searches and had cause to stop and search a Nissan Almera, where they discovered a quantity of ammunition and two speaker boxes.
It said upon examining the powered speaker boxes, officers discovered eight AR15 rifles unassembled along with 12 magazines hidden inside, during a subsequent search of a Nissan B15, another AR15 rifle was found.
Nine people are now in police custody.
