Dear Editor,
May I share one observation that might have escaped the public? The statement from the US and European diplomats took less than 20 minutes to get the point across – what the opposition and thousands have been trying to do for the past months – namely to have this APNU+AFC regime “accept” the breach of Guyana’s Constitution and set an immediate date for elections or face the consequences. I repeat, wow!
Business cannot be as usual. The regime has gone haywire, claiming internal interference. The regime should consider itself fortunate since the diplomats have released the subjective rather than objective interests of their respective governments and institutions. They are more concerned with the practice and protection of democracy including credible elections and human rights, rather than removing a rogue government from power.
Yours faithfully,
Lomarsh Roopnarine
