The cycling season continues Saturday with the 15th annual Laparkan Holdings Limited 11-race cycling programme.
The Hassan Mohammed-organised event, will pedal off at 09.00 hours as the country’s best wheelsmen take to the inner circuit of the National Park.
Competition in the feature 35-lap schoolboys and invitational race is expected to be at its peak with We Stand United’s Briton John and Team Cocos’ Jamaul John in top form.
Both riders have dominated local races this year and will want to make a statement after not being on the National team for the upcoming Tour of Tobago.
However, those selected, Team Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega, Trojan’s Curtis Dey, Linden Bauxite Flyers’ Michael Anthony and Jornel Yearwood will all be looking to get in the right gear ahead of next month’s event in the Twin- Island Republic.
Despite his lack of form, it would also be difficult to rule of last year’s winner, Evolution’s Christopher Griffith from the list of favourites after he outsprinted We Stand United’s Andrew Hicks in a time of one hour, 18 minutes and 32 seconds to lift the title.
Meanwhile, the earlier races will see the younger riders taking to the course. Last year, David Hicks strolled to victory in the three-lap 12-14 year category but will now ride in the 10-lap Juvenile race which was won by Donovan Fraser in a time of 24 minutes and 23 seconds.
Leer Nunes will also be challenged for his Veteran under-50 title while Ian Jackson will be pressed to defend his Veteran over-50 championship as well.
The Mountain Bikers have not been on the scene for some time now but are expected to make a return at this event.
Human Resources Manager of Laparkan, Lynette Shivlochan is expected to be present and assist with the distribution of prizes.
