Port Mourant Secondary defeated Central Corentyne Secondary by nine wickets and then drew a bye to the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC)/ Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Ltd (GBTI) Region Six Inter-Secondary Schools Under-19 competition.
Central Corentyne won the toss and elected to bat at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground. The visitors were bowled out for a meagre 39 runs in 18 overs.
Tyrese Smartt top scored with 10.
Guyana Under-15 player Matthew Pottaya, claimed 3-3 and received support from D. Harripersaud, 3-8 and P. Ramkhelawan, 2-6.
Needing to score 40, Port Mourant Secondary School raced to 43-1 from 6.3 overs.
West Indies Under-15 batsman, Rampersaud Rampertab ended on 22 not out.
Meanwhile, at the Area ‘H’ Ground, J.C. Chandisingh defeated arch-rivals Berbice High School by 43 runs to reach the semifinal where they will clash with the Berbice Educational Institute to decide the other finalist.
J. C. Chandisingh batted first after losing the toss and reached 150-7 off their allotted 20 Overs.
Guyana youth all-rounder Jonathan Rampersaud stroked a sold 53 consisting of three fours and two sixes while receiving support from Riyah Mohabir (29), Surendra Ramcharitar (18) and Jeremy Sandia (18). S. Seeram took 2-8 while Abdul Ramsammy chipped in with 2-26.
In response Berbice High were restricted to 107-9 with former national U15 captain player, Zeynul Ramsammy (11) and Seeram (15) being the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Left-arm spinners Lucas Arthur 2-16 and former national player Pavendra Ganesh 4-16 were the stand out bowlers for J.C. Chandisingh.
Play in the tournament was recently restarted after it was postponed for five months due to the long rainy season and summer holidays.
