A Jamaican national was yesterday jailed for four months after he admitted to overstaying his time in Guyana by over two years.
Anthony Lynch was permitted to stay in Guyana from November 16th, 2016 to April 29th, 2017 but up to May 29th, 2019, he remained in the country. Lynch was arrested in May this year and subsequently admitted to publicly sharing an obscene video and jailed for one year.
When the overstaying matter was called yesterday before Magistrate Annette Singh, Lynch changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.
He was later sentenced to four months imprisonment for the crime.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Visram Ramjattan.
Lynch is currently serving a one-year jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to a charge that on January 1st, 2019, at Lot 20 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he knowingly or without justification, exposed for public viewing, an obscene video, intending to corrupt public morals. He was also sentenced to nine months behind bars for a charge which stated that on January 7th, 2019 at Eve Leary, Georgetown, while being in lawful custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, he escaped.
