The son of a city businessman is among seven persons who were taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon following the discovery of a sub-machine gun and a quantity of ammunition at Church Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
Police spokesman Shivpersaud Bacchus, in a press release yesterday said that the discovery was made around 14.30hrs during an intelligence-led operation.
The items, he said were found in a store room.
Among the items discovered were the submachine gun whose serial number was filed off, three magazines, one silencer, 120 live rounds of .45 ammunition and one AK 47 magazine.
One of the suspects, according to the police is a licensed firearm holder. However, it remains unclear if he was licensed to carry the weapon that was found.
The suspects remained in custody up to yesterday afternoon as the investigation continues.
