Guyana on Tuesday signed an Air Services Agreement with the Middle Eastern state of Qatar to facilitate aviation services between the two countries as well as beyond to third countries with no restrictions on capacity, frequency, aircraft type and routing.
A release yesterday from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said that the Agreement will create new opportunities for air carriers and enable greater movement of people and goods between the two countries.
The release said that the agreement was sealed by the heads of the respective civil aviation authorities – Abdulla Nasser Turki Al Subaey, President, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field, Director General, Guyana Civil Aviation Autho-rity. The signing was done on the sidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) 40th General Assembly, Montreal, Canada.
The release said that the Agreement complements the more than 50 Air Services Agreements Guyana has clinched with other ICAO States for the development of air links among States. It is a step closer in the realization of a strong and reliable gulf carrier operating flights to George-town, the GCAA said.
In the coming months, a delegation from Qatar will be visiting Guyana to scout business opportunities in the aviation sector and to bolster the Caribbean and Latin America network, the release said.
