The murder of 30-year-old Curtly “Conehead” Calder in St James on Friday night has taken to homicide figure for 2019 to 400.
The same number of people were killed during the same period in 2018.
And in 2018, the murder toll ended at 516, which is the second deadliest year in this country’s history.
In 2008, this country recorded its deadliest year with 550 murders.
Calder, 30, of Upper Bournes Road, St James, was fatally shot at about 9.20p.m. on Friday in the vicinity of Twin’s Bar, which is located not too far from where he lives.
Police were told that Calder was liming with some friends when a vehicle drove by the area, and opened fire on the group.
Calder, and 40-year-old Nickel De Mills, of Nizan Street, St James, were shot multiple times.
The police and emergency health services were notified and the two men were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital. De Mills was shot in the right hand and abdomen.
