A Corentyne fisherman is believed to have drowned on Friday afternoon at the outfall at Number 66 Village, Corentyne, where he had been swimming.

Dead is Kenneth Craig, 45, of Lot 206 Section ‘A’, Number 66 Village, Corentyne.

The deceased’s cousin, Raymond Craig, explained that on Friday they received infor-mation that his cousin dis-appeared around 3 pm while swimming at the outfall, which is located directly next to the Number 66 Fishery Complex.

Sunday Stabroek was told, that Craig, a father of three, would head to the area to fish every day. He usually “go throw fish line to catch fish there,” his cousin said. The cousin added, “Them say he did swimming and he went down and nobody didn’t see he back,” the man added.

While noting that Kenneth was a good swimmer, his cousin said they were told that the current was extremely strong on Friday due to the high tide.

He said a search was immediately launched but it was not until around 10 pm on Friday night that they found his cousin’s body, face down in a mud flat a short distance away from where he disappeared.

The police have since launched an investigation and the findings of an impending post-mortem examination are eagerly awaited to shed light on the cause of his death.
