This Saturday, the inner circuit of the National Park, Thomas Lands, will once again be the venue for the 15th annual Hand-In-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance 11-race cycling programme.
The event has been organized by veteran national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed, and will see the country’s premier riders taking to the course as they vie for prizes.
The collaboration between Mohamed and the sponsors was officially done last Friday at the company’s 1-4 Avenue of the Republic office.
Marketing Coordinator, Shafeena Juman, noted, ““The Hand-in-Hand Fire Insurance Company is happy to be able to sponsor this annual event for its 15th year and we anticipate that this year will be bigger and better. We will continue to remain committed to our youth’s development through sporting events such as cycling while fulfilling our corporate and social responsibility.”
Mohamed, in brief remarks stated, “Sponsorship is very important to not just cycling, but sports in general, so it’s always good to have this kind of commitment from companies like Hand-in-Hand.”
The premium race will be the 35-lap schoolboys and invitational which was won last year by Linden Bauxite Flyers’ Micheal Anthony in a time of one hour, 19 minutes and 14 seconds.
Anthony will want to build momentum as he prepares to represent the nation at the Senior Caribbean Cycling Championship next month.
Also looking for a good showing will be Paul DeNobrega (Team Evolution), Curtis Dey (Trojan) and Guyana’s top two riders currently, Jamaul John (Cocos) and Briton John (We Stand United), all of whom are poised to attend the championships.
In addition, Jornel Yearwood of Linden Bauxite Flyers, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green of United and Romello Crawford of PSL/Trojan will want to have good showings since they are on the standby list for the championships.
Other winners from 2018 were Adelia Hodge (10-lap Juveniles), Ozia McUally (Mountain Bikes), Jude Bentley (Veterans Under-50) and Jaheme Henry (12-14 Boys and Girls).
As has been the case over the years, representatives of Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies will be on hand to witness the riders in action and later assist in the distribution of prizes.
The event pedals off from 09.00 hours.
