In the wake of their 55-run clobbering of Good Success by Sans Souci Jaguars Sunday in the final of the Birbal Contracting T20 competition, winning captain, Siddiq Mohamed, has credited the title to consistency.
Rain delayed the contest for nearly two hours before Jaguars were inserted to bat and piled on 156-6. They then dismissed Good Success for 102 in 17.5 overs.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport, Mohamed reflected, “It was a good game, the wicket was a bit bad to bat on, but we knew once we put on a decent total we could defend it.”
Mohammed shared in a 72-run stand for the third wicket with Man-of-the-Match Dellon Osbourne to take the game away from Good Success.
He has, however, credited a collective effort for the victory.
“We have a more balanced team both in the bowling and batting department,” he declared.
“Our batters and bowlers did the job for us and in the end that made the difference for us,” he added.
Mohamed downplayed the win although he said it meant a lot to the team.
“It’s another win for us and it’s always good to be on the winning side…it’s just that we are playing as a team and we are moving from strength to strength,” he said.
“It means a lot to the team…We have been playing good cricket and winning 90 percent of the tournaments for the past four years so we just want to be consistent and keep winning tournaments,” he added.
The successful captain thanked the sponsors for giving back to the Island which has roughly four tournaments a year.
He said there were some decent young talent coming out and he also thanked the supporters for turning out in their numbers.
He also extended gratitude to S&K Construction and General Supplies for donating the uniforms to the team.
