Jamaican businessman and PNP activist, Alston Stewart, has been reprimanded and discharged by a court in Trinidad after at least two bullets were found in his luggage when he visited the twin island republic on Thursday, according to nationwideradiojm.com.
He had been en route to Guyana. Stewart has been an adviser to the Alliance For Change.
According to nationwideradiojm.com, Stewart re-appeared in a Trinidad court on Monday. He was reprimanded after a submission by his lawyer, who also pleaded for leniency. His passport was returned to him and the report said that it is understood that the infringement will not reflect on his record.
Stewart spent last week Thursday night in the custody of Police in Trinidad.
He was released on bail on Friday.
The report said that Stewart was taken into custody when at least two bullets in a magazine were found in his luggage by immigration officials in Trinidad.
Immigration officials in Jamaica where Stewart had left en route to Trinidad did not detect the ammunition.
It’s understood that Stewart was on his way to Guyana when the incident occurred, the report said.
The businessman and political activist is contending that the ammunition which was legally obtained in Jamaica was left in his luggage by mistake.
