Dear Editor,
I am quite disappointed to hear that there is a decrease in ads to the Stabroek News (SN). This can be interpreted as punishment to SN.
Take comfort in the fact that SN played a historic role in the restoring of democracy in 1992. Other papers came later. SN bore the brunt of the government assault and is still standing strong to maintain democracy today.
I applaud the management, editors, and leadership of SN for their work over the years. Shame on the government for apparently cutting ads to SN and the other newspaper, Guyana Times.
The Prime Minister and former Minister of Information and the Department of Public Information should be ashamed if they are not providing answers for the cut in ads.
I call on the Guyanese people to stand strong in support of the Stabroek News. Maybe some form of protest action should be organized. We need civil society to voice their concerns too, and hope the international organizations and embassies are taking note.
Yours faithfully,
Jerry Singh
