A man who stole over $500,000 worth of items from a woman’s car was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail for the crime.Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty found Albert DeFreitas guilty and in sentencing him she noted that it was not the first instance where he was in court for such an offence.
The charge against DeFreitas, of Leopold Street, had stated that on January 31st, 2018, at Parade Street, Georgetown, stole a Samsung Galaxy phone, valued $200,000, a Dell Laptop, also valued $200,000, a handbag valued $60,000, a make-up kit valued $50,000 and $13,000 cash, which were the property Sherry Haynes.
Haynes, police said, parked on Parade Street and went into a store for about 20 minutes. She returned and discovered the items were missing and upon further investigation it was shown that the lock of one of the doors was tampered with.
DeFreitas was seen on surveillance footage committing the crime.
