Mark Davis, the man accused of shooting Charity teen Fieada Mohamed during a robbery at her home earlier this week, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with attempted murder.
Davis, called ‘Marlon,’ was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
As a result, bail was refused and the case was adjourned until October 11th.
Davis, who is believed to the mastermind of the attack, was apprehended by the police on Tuesday morning at Dredge Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo.
The robbery was committed around 7.20 pm on Monday at Manzoor Mohamed General Store, located at Lot 111 Charity Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The crime was allegedly committed by Davis and two others, who posed as customers. Davis is known to the Mohamed family. The police are still searching for the remaining two suspects.
Stabroek News had reported that 18-year-old Mohamed was shot to her forehead after she attempted to alert her mother that their family business was being robbed.
She was initially rushed to the Charity Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to a private hospital in the city.
A relative, who wished not to be named, yesterday informed this newspaper that Mohamed remained hospitalised and is recovering. He added that she underwent a four-hour long surgery on Tuesday to remove the warhead, which was lodged, and it was successful.
The business is situated in the lower flat of the family’s home and Mohamed and her sisters have been helping their mother, 54-year-old Zareeda, called ‘Sukie,’ to manage it since the death of their father last year.
This newspaper was told that the family was about to close the business for the day when ‘Marlon’ approached and requested to enter the store in order to purchase water. He then allegedly advanced towards Fieada’s sister, who was at the cashier counter, and held her at gunpoint, while an accomplice held up a female customer.
The bandits then took the women into the house, where they bound and gagged them using duct tape and plastic straps before ransacking the house.
They managed to escape with the proceeds from the day’s sales.
Fieada, who was in the house, heard noise and later saw the men. She then began to scream in an effort to raise an alarm and was shot as a result.
