(Trinidad Express) Police and soldiers launched a five month anti-crime exercise yesterday, with Police Commissioner Gary Griffith calling on citizens to help with information to find the criminals.
Minister of National Security Stuart Young, Griffith and Air Commodore Darryl Daniel continued with Operation Strike Back II, were at the anticrime launch at the La Horquetta Police Station yesterday morning.
The team visited the Northern and Western Divisions.
Young said through proper planning and intelligence, additional resources are being used in the fight against crime, these resources are in addition to the normal on-duty officers who are based at police stations and policing districts on a daily basis.
Griffith is underscoring the importance of members of the public coming forward with information which can assist police in carrying out this operation successfully. He is asking members of the public to exercise patience with any inconvenience caused by this operation, as these exercises are necessary to address criminal activity nationwide.
Following the walkabout and observation of the operation in La Horquetta, the team journeyed to the Carenage Homework Centre.
The team was briefed, following which they conducted a tour of the Carenage district.
Operation Strike Back II will be sustained over the next months and will deal specifically with certain Divisions in which statistics, intelligence and information show are prone to gang activity. Joint operations will continue to be conducted nationwide on a 24hour basis, specifically in areas which are prone to gang activity.
