The Police Sports Club (PSC), the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) continued their unbeaten runs in the 2019 New Building Society (NBS), Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Second Division 40-over tournament after recording triumphs yesterday.
Police, on the back of fine innings of 91 from Andrew Lyght Jr., defeated host Everest by 14 runs.
Police after winning the toss posted 189 for five from their allotted 35 overs reduced due to rain. Lyght Jr., who cracked a century last weekend, was supported by Kemol Savory (26) and Pernel London (23).
Saheed Mohamed (1-14) and Dwayne Adams (1-30) were the chief wicket-takers for Everest who made a fist of it but folded for 175 before being dismissed in 33.1 overs.
Amir Khan (55) led the way in the unsuccessful run chase while Mohamed (38) also carried the team. Police’s Vishal Jaigobin (3-37), Darson La Rose (2-27), Hemchand Persaud (2-27) and Savory (2-6) combined their efforts to deliver the win for the visitors.
Meanwhile, over at DCC, the hosts brushed aside GNIC by 220 runs. DCC who batted first, made 289 all out in 34.4 overs.
West Indies Under – 19 wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Persaud notched up 98 to spearhead his side’s batting effort as Alphius Bookie (48) and Ashmead Nedd (45 not out) ensured the side reached the mammoth total.
Jeremiah Benjamin (2-60) and Premchand Sukhdeo (2-58) were the main wicket-takers for GNIC who in response, were shot out for 69 in 16.2 overs with Daniel Mootoo (5-24) and Steven Sankar (4-17) orchestrating the routing.
Meanwhile, over the Police, GYO downed the University of Guyana by 17 runs in an exciting low-scoring affair.
GYO batted first and were shot out for 104 inside 28 overs with Michael Deonarine (47) and Joshua Ramsammy (21) carrying the side past the 100-run mark.
The wickets were shared among Nickolas Bollers (2-3), Yeti Favourite (2-11), Pavindra Persaud (2-16), and Omesh Danram (2-21).
The UG were skittled out for 87 in response with Ramsammy returning to grab (4-10) while the inform Trevon France nabbed 3-7.
