A 12-member jury yesterday found a 45-year-old man guilty of rape and sexual activity with a child when the case was called at the High Court in Georgetown.
The charges against Selwyn Lancaster stated that on October 6th, 2018, he engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16 years. A second charge stated that on November 6th, 2018, he engaged in sexual activity with a child by touching her vagina.
When the matter was called yesterday before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, a 12-member mixed jury after hours of deliberation, handed down a unanimous guilty verdict for both offences.
When asked if he had anything to say after the verdict, Lancaster said, “I really don’t have nothing to say.”
In an impact statement that was presented to the court, the victim said that she feels bad whenever she sees the accused and she becomes angry and further, when she thinks about the incident, she feels sad. “I feel sad because of what he did to me. I don’t trust people…I want Selwyn to go to jail because of what he did to me,” the victim said in her statement.
