Dear Editor,
I was very privileged to chair a fascinating discussion on the Windrush Scandal at the London High Commission on Tuesday 8th.
This was Britain’s moment of shame when it came to its treatment of British West Indians. They and especially Theresa May should hang their heads in deep remorse at some shocking behaviour.
Amelia Gentleman the much garlanded Guardian journalist who broke and pursued the story spoke of her bitter anger at the actions of the Tory government. Incidentally now headed by one Boris Johnson – her brother in law. Her book ‘The Windrush Scandal’ is well worth buying
Colin Grant, a British Jamaican talked of his book ’Homecoming: voices of the Windrush Generation’ an oral history of those who came from the West Indies including the indefatigable Joyce Trotman and George Mangal from Guyana. That too is well worth buying!
Between them the past and the present came to light wonderfully to a full house.
Yours faithfully,
John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
