A fine batting performance from junior national player Kevin Christian, backed by a pivotal spell of bowling from Vishaul Jaigobin, spurred host the Police Sports Club (PSC) to first innings honours over the Transport Sports Club (TSC) yesterday.
Police after winning the toss and electing to bat, found themselves in a tricky position early on after seamer Mark Baptiste (3-35) made life difficult for Police’s top order.
However, the innings was revived by Christian who carved out five fours and a maximum during his innings of 74 before his side was dismissed for 229 in 58 overs.
Chemroy Kendell (29), Reginald Rodrigues (29) and Leon Crawford (20) were the other batsmen to get into the twenties as Kevin Ross (2-44) and Rafael Singh (2-40) supported Baptiste’s earlier efforts.
Meanwhile, Transport, in their first innings response were bundled out for 112 in 24.2 overs on the stroke of play on day one to surrender first innings honours while gifting their counterparts a handy 117-run lead.
Azim Azeez (46) who wielded his willow down the order, provided resistance against leg spinner Jaigobin who nabbed 4-5 from 4.2 overs while seamers Paul Tyndall (3-39) and Eon Rodrigues (2-23) rocked the top order early on.
Devaughn Nandan (28) missed out on a start.
