A gold dealer was shot dead this morning while two others were injured after armed bandits attempted to carry out a daring daylight robbery outside El Dorado Trading, Newtown, Kitty.
The dead man has been identified as 44-year-old Deon Stoll, a resident of Bel-Air.
The identities of the two injured persons who include Stoll’s guard, are unknown at this point.
The three men were rushed to a city hospital where Stoll subsequently succumbed.
Crime Chief (ag) Michael Kingston confirmed the shooting incident which occurred around 10.15 am.
It is suspected that the bandits trailed Stoll before opening fire as he was about to enter the business.
“Based on what I know for now, the persons (bandits) probably trailed the car from where they were coming from and they attempted to rob the persons in the process both the driver (Stoll) and the passenger were shot,” Kingston told Stabroek News.
He added that the passenger returned fire and it is believed that one bandit was wounded in the process.
The bandits, Kingston said managed to escape empty handed.
The police are currently on the scene investigating.
