Eagles clawed their way past Hurry ATE by a 3-2 score when the West Demerara Football Association [WDFA] Senior League resumed Saturday at the Goed Fortuin Community Center ground.
Seon Miller led the Stewartville based outfit with a hat-trick in the fifth, 39th and 83rd minute. For the losers, Quason McAulay registered a double in the sixth and 23rd minute.
Miller handed his side the perfect start, racing past his marker following an individual move before uncorking a powerful strike into the left hand corner of the net from inside the area.
The lead proved to be short-lived as McAulay responded one minute later. A lobbed pass from the defensive third sailed over the heads of the backline and allowed the lanky forward to race into the penalty box and finish past the advancing goalkeeper into the left corner.
McAulay made his presence felt once more to hand his side the lead, rifling a powerful shot from the top of the 18 yard box, after receiving a pass from a team-mate.
Nevertheless, Eagles would level proceedings six minutes before the end of the first half, as Miller recorded his second.
A passing combination led to the aforesaid conversion, as Miller blasted his effort across the body of the goalkeeper from within the right side of the penalty area.
The second half contrasted the first period, with Miller recording the only conversion to decide the result.
It was a brilliant individual effort from the forward, as a poor punched clearance by the opposing goalkeeper, was volleyed from outside the center of the box into the back of the net. Meanwhile, Crane defeated Uitvlugt via walkover.
The tournament continued yesterday at the same venue with another doubleheader. At 14:00hrs, Pouderoyen will oppose Western Pumas while Wales will lock horns with Beavers from 16:00hrs.
