Tiwari plays flawless chess to stop Leung

Veteran chess player and former president of the Guyana Chess Federation Errol Tiwari, with cap, is a picture of concentration during his second round match against Steve Leung.

Veteran chess player and Stabroek News’ columnist Errol Tiwari played flawless chess yesterday to force the resignation of Steve Leung in their second round clash of the GAICO sponsored Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) tournament at the National  Resource centre.

Tiwari, with a slight material advantage, (two bishops and four pawns against a rook and three pawns) forced a game Leung to resign shortly after he lost his rook.

Tiwari, who had beaten Kenrick Brathwaite in his first round encounter was on two points after the second round.
