(Trinidad Guardian) An Arima man was killed during a shoot-out with police officers on Monday evening.
At around 5 pm, police received a report of a shooting at Maturita Extension. Officers from the Northern Division Task Force East and Crime Suppression Unit responded and were reportedly greeted by gunfire from the suspect.
The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect several times. The man, who was later identified as Stephan Plaza, was taken to the Arima District Health Facility for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police sources said Plaza was well known to them and was a suspect in several recent shootings in the district, the most recent of which occurred last Friday.
In that incident, two women were driving along Hillview Drive, Bypass Road, Arima, when someone shot at the driver’s side window and windshield. The vehicle, which crashed after the women were shot, had more than 25 bullet holes.
The women were warded at hospital up to late yesterday.
