Unsavoury delay tactics by the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) prevented the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) from completing a well-deserved outright win in the latest round of the Noble House Seafoods, Second Division two-day competition at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) Ground on Sunday.
GDF, who required 66 runs to complete an outright win, were left agonizingly short by 10 runs when the rain came. Prior to that, GNIC’s players employed a number of witty delaying tactics to stall proceedings.
Sunday’s game saw GNIC being bundled out for 142 after winning the toss and electing to bat. Only Shane De Souza (32) and Jevin Colling (23) got amongst the runs while Leon Andrews (3-27), Jamal Chisholm (2-36) and Damion Waldron (2-38) shared the wickets for the Army men.
GDF, in their first innings, captured first innings points and a handsome lead after they posted 272 before being dismissed with Waldron (52) returned to score half century. Damion Withney (49) and Letroy Clarke (44) missed out on reaching their milestones.
GNIC, with a deficit of 130 runs, were dismissed for 196 in their second innings with Rashidi Benjamin (55) and Dexter Solomon (44) getting amongst the runs. Randy Lindore nabbed 4-50.
Needing 66 to complete the win, GDF ended on 56-1 when rain intervened.
