Young Men Christian Association [YMCA] Old Fort, Woodpecker Hikers, GCC Spice, GCC Tigers and Saints were among the winning teams when the GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships commenced on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
YMCA Old Fort downed Bounty GCC 5-3 in the Men’s First Division. Jason DeSantos recorded a hat-trick while Omar Hopkinson and Ascofu Simon scored one goal each.
For the losers, the trio of Dwayne Scott, Steven Xavier and Mark Sargeant found the back of the net.
Meanwhile, defending champion Woodpeckers Hikers edged Saints 2-1 in the Women’s Division. Jasmine Assanah and Nicole Eastman scored one goal each in the win. For the losers, Clayzia Bobb netted.
Continuing in the same section, GCC Tigers defeated GCC Spartans 4-1. Marzana Fiedtkou led the way with a brace while Sonia Jardine and Gabriella Xavier netted one goal each. For the losers, Abosaide Cadogan scored.
Also, GCC Spice edged YMCA Old Fort 2-0. Vanessa Pires and Sandy Roopnarine were on target. In the Second Division, Saints mauled YMCA Old Fort 9-0.
Shakeem Faucette recorded a helmet trick, while Hilmar Chester bagged a double. Adding one goal each were Tivesard Garnett, Baraka Garnett and Ezekiel Springer.
In other results, GCC Vintage dismissed Hikers by 9-4 in the Veterans section, Devin Hooper and Alan Fernandes registered respective hat-tricks with Dwayne Scott tallying a double. Patrick Edghill completed the tally with a conversion.
On the other side, Brian Asregado netted two goals while Devin Munroe and Nicolette Fernandes scored one goal each. Matches continue throughout the week at the same venue, with the respective finals set for Sunday.
