The inaugural Mackeson/Rawle Toney 3×3 Basketball Classic was officially launched yesterday at the Fireside Grill on Garnett Streets.

The two-day event, which is set to commence November 9th, will be contested utilizing an initial round-robin format. It will conclude November 10th. 

All matches will be played at the Burnham Court on Middle and Carmichael Streets. Winner of the event will pocket $300,000 while the second and third placed finishers  will receive $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

Coordinator of the event Rawle Toney stated that the launch of the event is a proud moment, adding that this version of basketball is the T20 version of cricket.

He added that 3×3 is entertainment driven which is similar to the shorter formats of several other disciplines, adding that he is grateful to the respective sponsors for their contributions in making the event a reality.

Mackeson Brand Coordinator Keon Perseus stated that the brand is pleased to be associated with the tournament, adding that the entity is committed to supporting players for the foreseeable future.

Similarly, Fariz Mohammed, Rush Energy Drink Brand Coordinator declared that he is pleased to witness the excitement associated with the event, adding that he wished the coordinator the best of luck in staging a successful tournament.

Also Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) representative Junior Hercules endorsed the staging of the event, adding that more sponsors and brands should be associated with the format.

He added that while the format is not as popular as it should be, the federation is committed to the development and overall growth of the format.
