Defending champs Essequibo produced another clinical performance to storm to their fourth win in as many games in this year’s ongoing SBF Petroleum Jaguars One-Day League after defeating West Demerara by 75 runs at Bourda, yesterday.
The win was orchestrated by the inform Kemol Savory and Kevon Boodie who struck half-centuries while seamer Joshua Jones snapped up a five-for, including a hat trick to end as the pick of the bowlers for the eventual winners.
Essequibo batted first and posted 213 before being dismissed in the final over. Boodie (51) and Savory (51) struck half-centuries to end as the principal scorers.
The pair came together with the score on 8-2 following the demise of Mark Williams (1) and David Williams (0) who both fell to national left-arm spinner Keshram Seyhodan (3-33).
Boodie and Savory took the score to 96 – 3 during a rebuilding stand which featured smart running between the wickets and the odd boundary. Both men were dismissed by off-spinner Richie Looknauth (3-25) while lower-order runs came off the bats of Quintin Sampson (26), Anthony Adams (21) and Nealand Cadogan (21).
West Demerara, in response, folded for 138 from 46.5 overs with national under – 19 seamer Jones registering figures of 5-18 from 5.5 overs. The right arm seamer’s impressive figures included a hat-trick, his victims being Malcolm Hubbard (10), Mahendra Dhanpaul (8) and Seyhodhan (2).
Earlier in the chase, quickie Ronsford Beaton (2-34) continued his impressive return to competitive action by removing Tagenarine Chanderpaul (4) and Andrew Seepersaud (2) while Ricardo Adams (2-15) also operated well with the new ball.
Only Looknauth (41), Tevin Imlach (30) and Travis Persaud (25) displayed any resistance against Essequibo’s formidable bowling unit.
Meanwhile, over at Enmore, Trevon Griffith struck a majestic century to lead East Bank past East Coast by 200 runs. East Bank batted first and posted 243-9 from their allotted 50 overs with Griffith slamming 122 to lead his side’s batting effort.
Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (47) missed out of a half-century as leg-spinner Amir Khan (4-41) ended as the pick of the bowlers.
East Coast in response were routed for 43 inside 18 overs as left-arm spinner Trevon France (5-14) bagged a five-for to complete the formality.
