West Berbice defeated Lower Corentyne by 67-runs Saturday at the Young Warriors Ground, Cumberland, to hand the team its first loss in this season’s SBF Petroelum/Cricket Guy Inc., Jaguars 50-overs-a-side Franchise League.
West Berbice won the toss, batted first and posted 192 all out from their quota.
They then restricted Lower Corentyne to 125 all out in 42.3 overs.
West Berbice were indebted to opener, Kevin Sinclair, who stroked his second half century in four innings. His 93-ball knock saw him hitting six fours and one six on his way to 51.
Sinclair lost his opening partner, Leon Andrews (09) and captain, Shimron Hetmyer (06) as well as Javid Karim and Marvan Prashad who both failed to score.
But after being 30-4, Sinclair and Seon Glasgow forged a 69-run partnership which pulled their side to a respectable total with Glasgow scoring 51 from 63 balls, with two sixes and two fours.
Steffon Adams blasted a 22-ball unbeaten cameo of 39 to see West Berbice take 62 runs from the last 10 overs.
Left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul, was back to his best, taking 6-18 while Kelvin Umroa and Nial Smith took one wicket each.
Kevlon Anderson took 2-9 in his one over.
In reply, Andrew Dutchin followed up on his 13-run cameo with the bat to take 4-19 and dent the Lower Corentyne batting line-up.
Anderson resisted with 40 from 69 balls with only his captain, Jonathan Foo, making any significant contribution with 25.
Lower Corentyne failed to recover after the dismissals of both batsmen in the 25th over.
Nigel Deodat bagged 2-4, Gudakesh Motie returned 2-18 while Sinclair had 1-23 from his eight overs, earning him the Man-of-the-Match award.
